BrownWinick Welcomes Andy Magner and Leif Gustafson to the Firm

We are pleased to welcome Andy Magner and Leif Gustafson to BrownWinick. Andy is joining our Energy, Natural Resources and Environmental Law practice group, with a focus on utility regulation and experience as both a state utility commission attorney and an in-house regulatory attorney. Leif is joining our Corporate M&A group, bringing transactional experience across law firms and corporate legal departments. Both bring a practical, client-focused approach to helping businesses navigate complex legal issues and pursue their goals.

About Andy

Andy Magner focuses on utility regulation, drawing on experience as a state utility commission attorney and an in-house regulatory attorney for an investor-owned utility company. His work spans rate cases, facility siting and permitting, tariff design, and utility policy at the state, regional, and federal levels. He has represented clients in regulatory and related appellate proceedings, including briefing and oral argument before the Iowa Supreme Court.

Andy helps clients pursue their goals while managing regulatory and legal risks, translating complex issues into clear advice and accessible regulatory filings. A Cedar Rapids native, he earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa.

About Leif

Leif Gustafson is a practical, solutions-oriented business attorney with experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, financing transactions, and banking agreements. Before joining BrownWinick, he worked at law firms in Arizona and Nebraska and in corporate legal departments in the Des Moines Metro, serving industries including banking, insurance, and transportation.

Leif takes time to understand each client’s business, helping clients make informed decisions about risk and negotiate terms aligned with their goals. A Mediapolis native, he earned his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and his law degree from the University of Iowa. As co-owner of a wine lounge in Johnston, he also brings firsthand insight into the challenges of small business ownership.
