Government Relations Update - 05-04-2023

The 2023 Iowa Legislature adjourned sine die Thursday afternoon, capping a 116-day session. The final gavel fell at 12:04 PM in the Senate and at 12:33 PM in the House.

The final week of session concluded with the passage of a few remaining policy bills, including property tax reform (HF 718). Governor Reynolds plans to sign the property tax legislation into law today, Thursday afternoon. Additionally, lawmakers finalized the state budget, passing the last two appropriations bills: Economic Development (SF 559) and Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund (SF 577) this morning.

As this was the first session of the 90th General Assembly, bills that were not signed into law will carry over to the 2024 session.

Governor Reynolds  now has a 30-day signing period where she can choose to sign or veto legislation, as well as line-item veto specific expenditures within budget bills.
