Daniel J. Wasta

As a lobbyist with BrownWinick's Government Relations practice, Daniel helps clients navigate Iowa's legislative and political landscape with strategic insight built from more than a decade of experience in government, public policy, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement. Having served in senior leadership roles at every level of politics, Daniel understands not only how public policy is made, but also the political, operational, and communications considerations that influence decision-making.

Daniel represents clients before the Iowa Legislature, executive branch agencies, and state officials on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues. He works closely with clients to develop legislative strategies, build relationships with policymakers, monitor legislation, and advance policy priorities while protecting clients' long-term interests.

My Approach

Thoughtful, responsive, and results-driven, I believe effective government relations begins with understanding each client's business, goals, and challenges. Every legislative issue is unique, and successful advocacy requires preparation, credibility, and the ability to build trusted relationships on both sides of the aisle. Throughout my career, I have worked directly with federally elected officials, statewide elected officials, legislators, local leaders, business executives, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders. Those experiences have given me a practical understanding of how policy decisions are shaped and how to effectively communicate complex issues. Having managed campaigns, served as a legislative liaison in state government, and advised elected officials, I understand the pressures clients face when navigating public policy challenges. Whether advancing legislation, defending against proposals that could negatively impact a business, or helping clients build long-term relationships with policymakers, my focus remains the same: providing practical advice, thoughtful advocacy, and measurable results. 

More About Me

Before joining BrownWinick, Daniel founded Blue Pioneer Strategies, a political consulting firm that advised federal, state, and local campaigns across the country. His work included managing successful ballot initiatives, advising U.S. Senate and congressional campaigns, and leading high-profile political operations in Iowa and nationally.

Previously, Daniel served as Iowa Political Director for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Iowa Caucus campaign and Iowa Political Director for President Joe Biden's 2020, Campaigns Director for the Iowa Senate Majority Fund, Executive Officer and Legislative Liaison for the Iowa State Treasurer's Office, and Senior Director for Congressman David Trone's U.S. Senate campaign. Throughout his career, he has built extensive relationships with elected officials, legislative leaders, advocacy organizations, and community stakeholders while helping organizations achieve complex political and policy objectives.

Daniel earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University, graduating summa cum laude with Academic Excellence and Excellence in Research awards.
