Specialties

Based on my experience both as business major at Iowa State University and later working on-site in a part-time general counsel role for one of BrownWinick's large manufacturing clients, it became very clear to me that I wanted my practice to focus on thinking outside the box and providing advice to clients with the big picture in mind. The most enjoyable part of my practice is being able to strategically partner with clients. To me, to be a “strategic partner” means that I and others on the client team at BrownWinick are fully integrated in all facets of your business; not only understanding your operations and goals, but also getting to know and appreciate your people, your culture, and your values. This approach allows me to align my thinking and practices with your decision-makers, and to evaluate the scope of each “legal” issue that affects your business through a lens that drives creative and innovative solutions.

While some issues or situations may have more than one viable solution, my goal is to provide you with the information and options to allow you to make the best possible decision for your business.

My Approach

I believe that reaching the right result for you on any matter requires the willingness of your legal counsel to be open to creative solutions, viewing the issues and the environment from a unique angle and perspective. I actively pursue this approach by listening to and drawing upon the knowledge, and diverse backgrounds and experiences of my clients.  While I thrive on solving obscure legal issues and successfully negotiating a complex acquisition, the “wins” are the sweetest when I can celebrate with my client and know that I have had a small hand in their real world success.

With that said, I would love to hear from you, whether about your business, legal questions, or simply to have a lively discussion about our favorite travel destinations.

More About Me

After living in Germany as a Rotary Foreign Exchange Student, studying abroad in Spain during my time at Iowa State University, and traveling extensively all over Europe, I knew that ultimately, as an Iowa native, I wanted to build my career and make Iowa “home”.

In 2010, I received a J.D., from the University of Iowa, was a Boyd Service Award Recipient, and was admitted to the Iowa bar in 2010. I graduated, with distinction, in 2007 from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Management. I have been recognized by Best Lawyers® in the area of Banking and Finance Law and by Super Lawyers® as a “Rising Star” in the Business/Corporate area.

I am actively involved in the Steering Council for Metro Women Connect, a Women Lead Change affiliated organization. I am a member of Polk County Women Attorneys, and until recently a multiple term board member of this organization. Currently I am serving as a Co-Chair of the Variety the Children's Charity of Iowa, Annual Polo Event and am one of the BrownWinick Representatives to Entrepreneurs' Organization, which supports local entrepreneurs. For five years I served as Pro Bono Legal Counsel for the West Des Moines Business Incubator, Inc. I also serve in leadership roles within our Firm, including Co-Chair of our Firm's Women In Business Group since 2018, and, until recently, as Co-Chair of the Corporate Practice Group. I am also a member of the West Des Moines Leadership Academy Class of 2015-2016.

Admittedly, when I am not in the office or out in the community, you can bet I will be planning another adventure abroad. With some of my favorites including a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia, Turkey, trekking to Machu Picchu in Peru, a camel ride with Bedouins in Jordan, visiting ancient Roman settlements all over the world, and taking in a Broadway show and grabbing a burger at Shake Shack in New York City.
