Specialties

As an associate attorney at BrownWinick Law Firm, I work with businesses, startups, and innovators to protect and make the most of their intellectual property. My practice focuses on patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and intellectual property strategy for clients in innovation-driven and industry-facing markets. I provide practical, strategic guidance that aligns with each client’s business goals, whether they are securing rights, managing risk, commercializing assets, or responding to infringement claims.

My Approach

I view intellectual property as a business asset, not just a legal issue. My goal is to give clients clear, practical advice that reflects their market, growth plans, and risk tolerance. Whether the issue involves protecting an invention, brand, or creative work, commercializing intellectual property, or responding to a dispute, I help clients evaluate their options and move forward with strategies that are both practical and business-focused.

More About Me

I grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota and developed an early interest in the sciences. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in genetics and a double major in history, and I studied in a leading microbiology and bacteriology research lab. That background led me to the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where I served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, participated in the Appellate Immigration Clinic, and argued before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals during my second year.

After graduating from law school in 2017, I moved to Des Moines and practiced at an intellectual property law firm for six years. My experience includes patent prosecution, trademark protection, and advising clients on how to protect and commercialize valuable intellectual property assets. I have worked with clients across biotechnology, bioinformatics and computational biology, AgTech, green technology, the automobile industry, food and agribusiness, healthcare, and consumer-facing businesses, including cigar companies and pet-friendly hospitality brands. I was selected to the Great Plains Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers from 2021-2025.
