Kirsten E. Johanson is an associate attorney with BrownWinick. Kirsten practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, business succession planning, and taxation law.
Kirsten assists clients with the development of individualized estate plans to facilitate effective wealth transfer and tax planning objectives. She also represents individuals and fiduciaries in estate and trust administrative capacities. She works with a variety of individuals to accomplish their estate planning goals, ranging from young families who want to ensure they have properly planned for their children, to business owners in the process of transitioning their operations to their children or third parties.
Kirsten advises on gift and estate tax planning at the federal level, as well as Iowa inheritance tax planning. In addition, Kirsten is licensed to practice in Minnesota and can guide clients who need planning for the Minnesota estate tax, which can affect various Minnesota assets from the family cabin to the family business.
Prior to joining the BrownWinick law firm, Kirsten was an associate attorney at Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty & Bennett in St. Cloud and Minneapolis, Minnesota where she was a member of the Trust, Estate & Charitable Planning practice group. Kirsten graduated from Iowa State University in 2013, summa cum laude, receiving dual B.S. degrees in Business Management and Agricultural Business with a third major in Economics. In 2016, Kirsten earned her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. While in law school, Kirsten was Executive Editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology, a Research Assistant for Professor Edward Adams, and an Admissions Ambassador.
Kirsten was admitted to the Minnesota bar in 2016 and the Iowa bar in 2017. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association.
