Caitlin M. Klingenberg is an associate attorney with BrownWinick. Caitlin’s practice places equal emphasis in the areas of Intellectual Property law, Data Security and Privacy law, and Business Immigration law. Her background in engineering provides a solid platform for her additional areas of focus at the intersection of technology and administrative law.

As a registered patent attorney, Caitlin advises and represents individuals and businesses in intellectual property matters, specifically those involving chemical, chemical engineering, mechanical, and agricultural technologies. Caitlin also represents organizations and individuals in matters related to Data Security & Privacy law, particularly related to compliance with technical and legal requirements. Additionally, Caitlin maintains a practice focus on Business Immigration law, leveraging her background in engineering to help articulate compelling arguments in support of clients seeking visas for their employees. Further, Caitlin’s personal, family experience with immigration provides a valuable perspective on transitioning business immigration clients from visa applications to longer term investments such as lawful permanent residence status and naturalization.

Prior to joining BrownWinick in 2016, Caitlin was in private practice at a boutique intellectual property law firm.

Caitlin graduated from the University of Iowa in 2013, receiving a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. Caitlin received her J.D., with honors, from Drake University Law School in 2016, with Certificates in Food and Agricultural Law and Global Intellectual Property Law. During law school, Caitlin served as Editor-in-Chief of the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law.

Caitlin was admitted to the Iowa bar in 2016, along with the U.S. District Courts for Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa. In 2017, she was admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a registered patent attorney. Caitlin is a member of the Polk County and American Bar Associations, as well as an active member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the American Agricultural Law Association, where she is currently serving as the Chair of the Law Student Outreach Committee.

Caitlin presents regularly on topics related to her practice at conferences, continuing legal education seminars, and as a guest lecturer in educational environments.
