At the request of several members of Congress, a second extension of the Red Flags Rule was announced on May 28, 2010, by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Trade Commission Red Flags identity theft rules' latest enforcement date was scheduled for June 1, 2010, but the enforcement date has now been delayed until December 31, 2010. The decision to delay enforcement of the Red Flags identity theft rules through December 31, 2010 was designed to give Congress more time to consider legislation that would affect the scope of entities covered by the rules.
