Elizabeth Coonan, a workers' compensation attorney at BrownWinick will present at Iowa Association of Business and Industry's Workers' Compensation: Best Practices, Lessons Learned and Ideas from the Innovators seminar on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. 

Beth's presentations will cover the following:

  • Penalty Benefits in Workers' Compensation Cases and Best Practices for Avoiding Liability
    This session will discuss ways to reduce the company and carrier's liability for penalty benefits by reviewing what constitutes a delay, denial or termination. Beth will talk about the "fairly debatable" standard and what is considered "reasonable". Current cases will be used to examine and establish best practices.
     
  • Bad Faith Claims: What Constitutes a "Reasonable Basis to Deny"
    This session will focus on understanding the bad faith standard through the use of practical examples. Beth will also discuss workers' compensation settlements and how they affect the ability of a claimant to file a civil action for bad faith.
