Location: Southwestern Community College, 1501 W. Townline Street, Creston, Iowa

Details

Bob Hodges, an estate planning attorney at BrownWinick, will be part of a panel at an Iowa Farm Bureau "Take Root" Workshop on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Southwestern Community College, 1501 W. Townline Street, Creston, Iowa. The panel will help farmers develop a comprehensive, managed approach for their family farm's continuation and growth from the "roots up" - helping ensure that what they are doing today will create an enduring legacy for future generations.

As families look to bring the next generation to the family farm, many questions and considerations may arise.  Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of attorneys, accountants and other professionals serving key roles in the farm succession process. Interact with a panel of Farm Business Advisors in a dialogue for issues including estate, tax and financial planning, leases and tenant qualities, and beginning farmer opportunities.

The "Take Root Program" is not your typical farm succession meeting; it is the beginning of a process to help you develop a long-term work plan that will help you start, grow and improve your farm operations while meeting your business and family goals - whether you just got started farming or have been farming for years.

Iowa Farm Bureau developed the "Take Root Program" to offer resources for the family farmer to help ensure that the family farm will be here for generations to come. The "Take Root Program" is more than just estate and transition planning, it provides customized strategies and resources that will improve family communication, assist in navigating through the emotional obstacles and identify the business and estate planning tools that correspond with transferring the family business to the next generation.
