Department of Labor Employment Law Changes

Location: Iowa Association of Business and Industry, 400 East Court Avenue, Suite 100, Des Moines

Megan Moritz, a BrownWinick employment law attorney, will be speaking at the Iowa Association of Business and Industry's ("ABI") 2016 Critical Business Updates Seminar on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

The Department of Labor has proposed new regulations that require reclassification of millions of employees from FLSA-exempt to non-exempt. Also, on July 15, 2015, the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division issued guidance starting "most workers are employees under the FLSA," and taking a very narrow view of which workers are properly classified as independent contractors. Finally, beginning January 1, 2016, workers performing work on or in connection with covered federal contracts must be paid at least $10.15 per hour. These changes, and what employers should do in response, will be discuss at this session.
