Paul E. Carey, Attorney at Law
Paul E. Carey is a member of BrownWinick and serves as the Chair of the
Wills, Estate and Probate Law and
Taxation practice group. Since 2007, Paul has been selected by his peers to be listed
in
The Best Lawyers in America in the area of tax law.
Paul provides services to clients in the areas of taxation, estate planning,
business transactions and general business planning. He has assisted business
owners in start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, split-ups, sales and liquidations.
Paul has assisted families in transitioning the ownership of businesses from generation
to generation. He has also assisted individuals with estate planning, drafting
of wills and trusts and administration of estates. Paul has prepared and reviewed
tax returns for businesses, individuals, trusts and estates and has represented
clients in disputes with federal, state and local tax authorities.
Utilizing his experience in taxation, Paul served on a committee of industry
representatives and state and local officials as the lead draftsman of the Iowa
Utility Replacement Tax legislation enacted in 1998.
Paul is a member of the board of directors of the Iowa Taxpayers Association
and is a member of the Tax Committee of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry.
He has served on numerous charitable boards and is presently on the boards of
directors of Scottish Rite Park, Inc. and the Iowa DeMolay Foundation, Inc. and
is an officer of both organizations.
Paul received both his B.S.B.A. in 1977 and his J.D.,
with honors, in 1981 from Drake University. Paul is a member of the Polk County and Iowa
State Bar Associations. He was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1982.
