Attorney at Law

Jonathan Napier

Jonathan A. Napier is a member of BrownWinick. Before returning to private practice in Des Moines in 2013, Jonathan spent more than a dozen years leading the legal teams for a series of private equity owned healthcare companies in Dallas, Texas.  Before that, he practiced law at a large law firm in Indianapolis.

Jonathan's professional experience ranges from rapidly growing start-up companies to mature, industry leading, companies.  He served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President for The Broadlane Group, LLC, the nation's leading provider of healthcare supply chain and cost management solutions. He then served as General Counsel and Senior Vice President for CCS Medical, Inc., one of the nation's largest mail order suppliers of durable medical equipment (DMEPOS) including diabetes test products, pharmaceuticals, and wound care supplies. He represents dentists and dental practices in business transactions, compliance, real estate and other matters.

He has extensive experience in healthcare fraud and abuse, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment standards and conditions of participation, and 50-state healthcare licensing. He has designed and implemented healthcare ethics and compliance programs for many companies. Jonathan led contract processes for more than $25 Billion in supply chain purchases across healthcare including physician preference items, commodities, distribution, and purchased services; he understands the healthcare supply chain first hand from each of the supplier, provider, and group purchasing organization (GPO) perspectives.

In addition to his healthcare background, Jonathan has handled a variety of corporate transactions including extensive M&A for private equity groups, including an $850 Million sale to a public-company, a several hundred million dollar corporate restructuring, and a variety of seven and eight figure corporate transactions. As a member of several companies' executive management teams, he understands business reality and recognizes the need to find practical, strategic, and business-friendly solutions in all situations.

Jonathan's practice focuses on advance business and legal planning to avoid surprises, finding creative and practical solutions when issues do arise, and creating repeatable, convenient, and cost-effective processes and standard forms and for in-house legal and business teams' ongoing use. He writes all documents in "plain language" and strives to find the quickest, least expensive, and most effective solution in every situation.

Jonathan received his B.A., with honors in Religion, from the University of Iowa in 1995.  While in law school, he was a Member of the Iowa Law Review, Captain of a Moot Court team, and earned his J.D. with high distinction, in 1998. Jonathan was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1998 (inactive), the Colorado bar in 2013 (inactive), and became an active member of the Iowa bar in 2009.  He is a member of the Polk County and Iowa State Bar Associations.
