Catherine C. Cownie is a member of BrownWinick Since joining BrownWinick, Katie has practiced primarily in the health law area, in particular state licensure and regulatory matters. She spends a significant amount of her time involved in Iowa Certificate of Need related issues. Katie is also involved in the representation of practitioner associations. BrownWinick represents the Iowa Dental Association and as a part of that representation, Katie advises the Association on the rulemaking process and proposed legislation. She also represents a number of individual dental practitioners in licensure related matters before the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners.
 
After graduating from law school, Katie practiced with a small health care firm in Des Moines for four and a half years. During that time, her practice focused primarily on health care transactions for national health care providers as well as physician contracting matters. Katie joined BrownWinick in January, 2004.
 
In addition to her healthcare practice, Katie represents a number of BrownWinick's renewable fuels clients in the federal and state registration process.
 
Katie received her B.A. in Psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu in 1996. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa in May of 1999. She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, in their Health Law Section; American Health Lawyers Association, Polk County Bar Association, Polk County Women Attorneys; Iowa Society of Healthcare Attorneys and the American Bar Association. She also serves on the Do More In The City Planning Committee for the Greater Des Moines Partnership and was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Youth Homes of Mid-America. Katie was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1999.
