Donations were collected along with hundreds of school supplies including backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, markers, crayons, notecards and boxes of Kleenex.
The mission of SOS is to provide free items to teachers, students, and schools in need in the Greater Des Moines area. The national average for teachers’ out of pocket spending per school year is $500. Kids are bringing their supplies to school in plastic grocery bags, because they cannot afford to get backpacks. Teachers are running out of basic school supplies halfway through the school year. SOS works to fill that gap. For more information on SOS, go to http://supportourschoolsia.org/index.html.
